This is how it should be
Whenever I am stressed out, I go for a walk; today, I decided to walk along the waterfront. It was cold for the time of the year and I was happy I was wearing my raincoat.
My thoughts were a repeating summation of all my leadership responsibilities, which felt overwhelming. I felt underappreciated and depressed because no matter how hard I tried, I kept coming up short.
Is this the reality of leadership? I thought.
It would take me another 45 minutes to walk to that radio tower I saw in the distance, and I decided that would be the guide to my compass today.

How We Experience Reality as a Leader
At the start of my first leadership role, I was responsible for bringing a once glorious team back to its prime. When I arrived, there were a lot of interpersonal conflicts, an unfair division of labor, a declining revenue stream, and the absence of the feeling of a team.
For six months, I poured my heart and soul into that team, working many hours and working on everything simultaneously. After those six months, it felt as if nothing had changed.
