Amazon purchased the company Eero, a popular router and mesh WiFi maker, to further round out it’s smart home products. Eero’s routers are created to be a lot easier to set up than your typical router. It’s app-enabled design also makes it easy to use.

Eero also sells WiFi beacons that help to extend signal ranch and reduce or eliminate areas with little to no coverage. When you combine the features of its routers and beacons, you create a reliable mesh network that is more stable than what you would typically find in a traditional router system.

Eero is just the most recent high-profile company Amazon has acquired in the smart home industry. Companies like Ring, the video doorbell maker and Blink, a security camera company, were recently acquired by Amazon. Ring was acquired for a price upwards of $1 Billion in 2018 according to Business Insider and Blink for $90 Million in 2018.

While the teams of the deal have not yet been disclosed, Eero has managed to raise $90 million in funding in over 4 rounds with their latest being in July 2016 from a Series C round.

Dave Limp, the SVP of devices and services for Amazon said “We are incredibly impressed with the Eero team and how quickly they invented a WiFi solution that makes connected devices just work.”

Eero was also excited about the news, posting this on their twitter:

Alexa and Eero’s products have been compatible for a while now and while Amazon seems to plan to keep Eero as it’s own, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the two companies create deeper integrations now that they are working directly with one another.
