Or, how gently are you willing to peel self off the soul

Do not be loyal to your in-group’s isolationist and fundamentalist tendencies. Distancing is fine, but if your hatred for that becomes your identity, that would be staying loyal but contrarianly. It’s a scab you never stop scratching. When your coping mechanisms become a part of your personality so deep that they inform all your world views, you are no longer a person. You’re a surviving species.

Do not be loyal to loyalty. It is born of expectations from self without giving it any nourishment. The soul can’t rattle along much longer on the dying embers of received principles. It needs the warmth and wetness of love. Be guided by that. Don’t let lofty ideals get in the way of your humanity.
Charity truly does begin at Home.

You are Home.

‘Do you know the story of Jekyll and Hyde?’ ‘Of course.’ ‘Well then — to avoid either extreme, it is necessary to find all the lives in between.’ (Lighthousekeeping-JW)

The first charity is kindness to self in the face of overwhelming demands to be monstrous to self. You can improve only that which you can love.

Like most things, this requires honesty.
If you must breathe lofty ideals to exist, let it be this one.
