“Pantone” has become a buzzword for the fashion industry, and it has made its way into the wonderful world of nail art. Before we dive into our favorite Pantone manicures, we’d like to take a moment to discuss the origins of the Pantone phenomenon. Since the year 2000, Pantone has selected a “Color Of The Year” and as a result has become the global authority for color in art, fashion, and design. The term “Pantone” comes from Lawrence Herbert’s “Pantone Matching System” which was originally developed as a system for identifying, matching, and communicating colors across print and textile industries, thus creating a standard for colors across fields. In other words, if you want to get really extra, you can use the Pantone Matching System to ensure that your nail color matches perfectly with the color of your shirt and shoes. This 2019, the Color Of The Year is Pantone 16–1546, Living Coral. It is described as “Vibrant, yet mellow, Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.”

Here are some of our favorite variations of Pantone, including manicures that integrate Living Coral.
