As a team, Mapify has always been passionate about people and the way they move and go about their day. If you live in a city, it’s almost impossible to ignore the tons of e-bikes splattered around everywhere.

An e-bike and other small vehicles used to navigate highly populated urban areas like cities is what we call micromobility.

According to the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and their definition, all micromobility vehicles are motorized (fully motorized or motor-assisted), low speed (below 30 mph or 48 km/h) and small sized (less than 500 lb or 227 kg).

SAE groups micromobility products into 6 categories:

Many times these products are associated with shared mobility popularized by companies such as Uber, Bolt, Lime and Lyft. However, micromobility vehicles can also be privately owned.

It is expected that micromobility, especially private micromobility grows long-term over public transportation due to a higher importance of hygiene and also desire to avoid congestion. In addition to that, cities will keep incentivizing and regulating private cars.

We spent some time searching for some of the coolest ones to present to you. Honestly, we wish we could have all of these parked in our office ready to go!

Ca Go Bike

Ca Go Bike is an e-bike focused on safety that is personalizable to your needs. Its speed goes up to 15 mph (25 km/h) and its autonomy can go up to 78 mi (125 km). The company has two models, FS200 Life (€7,690) ideal to travel with your kids and FS200 Vario ideal to transport valuable cargo (€7,490). They have all kinds of accessories such as child seats, an all-weather top, a lockable cargo box lid and more.

Swytch Bike

Why buy an e-bike when you can convert your kickass bike into an electric one? This is the promise of Swytch Bike. According to the company, 99% of bikes can be converted with Swytch’s kit which weighs just 3.3 lb (1.5 kg). Swytch Bike’s kits cost starts at £499.50 which is significantly lower than buying an e-bike which is usually worth £2000.

Micro E-Scooter

If you’re looking for a stylish e-scooter, chances are Micro has one catering to your taste. Two wheels, three wheels, for adults and children of all ages. One of their most popular e-scooter, Micro Explorer, is the perfect mix of power and comfort, built to last. This model weighs 29.8 lb (13.5 kg) and its speed reaches 19 mph (30 km/h). This bad boy costs €1,099.00 although there are cheaper alternatives.

Hunter Board

When road conditions suck, electric skateboards can go from fantastic to fearsome. Hunter Boards wants to change that. Their product has a superior suspension system that increases stability and minimizes vibrations, thus reducing the risk of falling. Hunter Boards go up to 34 mph (55 km/h), weights 18 lb (9 kg) and costs $2099.

Cake Ösa

What if you could have a high performance electric motorcycle that is also off-road? That’s Cake. They have multiple models with different utilities and looks. It’s hard to choose. Their Cake Ösa model was selected by The Wired as one of the best electric mopeds you can ride in 2022. The basic version of Cake Ösa is priced at €9000 and is able to reach 30 mph (45 km/h) with an autonomy range of 57 mi (92 km).

We have one honorable mention which goes out to Microlino! Although officially not considered a micromobility vehicle according to SAE requirements, it’s hella cool.

Microlino

Microlino looks like a car. However, it has a lot in common with an e-scooter when you start to see past its appearance. This vehicle which can reach 56 mph (90 km/h) and has a maximum range of 143 mi (230 km), can be charged using a house plug in just 4 hours! Microlino holds space for 2 people and you can fit around 3 Microlino vehicles in a normal parking spot. It even has a sunroof for Summer. Microlino costs 14,990 CHF.

That’s it! What did you think of our list?
