How far you get by car in 10, 20 and 30 minutes
Analysing Brazilian states capitals cities
In this article we developed diagrams of each 27 Brazilian states capitals cities. As a strategy of cartographic representation, the concept of isochrone maps was used to visualize and compare areas by driving-distance of the same time limit, as we defined 10, 20 and 30 minutes.
Methodology
These areas were calculated through an API (Application Programming Interface) of the service “HERE.com” (https://www.here.com/), a company that provides mapping data, route calculation and standards traffic. The result was cartographic positions that defined an area (polygon) of the city reached from the time of origin for a period of 14 hours (7am to 9pm), one polygon per hour for each time (10, 20 and 30 minutes). At last, a georeferencing software was used to plan and to superimpose all the polygons generated in the map for each city center.
