This is the best chance to achieve all the goals you have planned for the new year. Use your new location to accelerate a fire of motivation.

You’re more mobile than you think, and so are your friends. In 2019, it’s expected that one out of every nine people you know will be finding a new place to live in the new year. And that’s for the entire population. If you’re in your 20s, moving is regular. One out of every three of your friends will move in the upcoming year. And all these movers have an added advantage in accomplishing their goals.

People move for many reasons like school, work, family, and personal choice. However, regardless of the reason, a fresh start drives a motivated mindset. So if you’re planning on making a change in the new year, use this exciting opportunity to spark further motivation in your life. Let’s see how your new environment can set up great success in the new year and how you can use MapTitan to make it easy.

Fuel your resolutions

Eat healthier and try new cuisines

Maybe it’s to improve your health or maybe it’s to experience new cultures. Either way, a new city provides an excellent chance to try new restaurants and indulge in cuisines you didn’t have access to in your old town. For your next home, find somewhere with unique cuisines. For example, you might want to check out an area with Japanese restaurants. This cuisine is regarded as a great combination of tasty and healthy.

Get more exercise

It’s been well known for a long time that exercise is a key component of a healthy life. And as the calendar turns over, more than one out of three people set a New Year’s resolution to increase their exercise activity. There are fun and creative ways to be more active in the new year by taking advantage of your surroundings.

In your new city, walk or bike to work rather than driving to get a daily energy boost. And on the weekends? If you choose to live near a National Park, great exercise is coupled with breathtaking scenery.

Save money and spend less

One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to increase your savings. Sometimes this decision means cutting back on discretionary spending. But we should think about our fixed expenses as well. For example, on average people spend a massive 30% of their income on housing expenses. And if you live in a city with high cost of living but low salaries, the percentage is even worse.

Necessary expenses like housing, utilities, transportation, and healthcare take up a large portion of your budget but they also vary widely across the country. An easy way to save money without the stress of micromanaging your budget is to simply live somewhere with a better income to cost of living ratio.

For your job role, discover where you’ll take home more money in the new year. MapTitan automatically calculates your “real salary” for each city to help you compare costs.

Make new friends

Another wide-spread resolution is to expand your friend group and meet interesting, friendly people. This goal is especially important if you’re headed to an unfamiliar place. In fact, meeting people is one of the most common difficulties with moving. However, don’t worry because there are easy ways to set yourself up for great friendships in your next community.

Start by looking for cities with people your age, or maybe bond over shared political views or language. If nightlife is your thing, you’ll have a much easier time meeting people in a vibrant scene with lots of popular bars and restaurants.

Find a better job

The end of one year and the beginning of another is a great time to reflect and then look forward. If you want to make an impactful change, there’s no better place to start than with the activity that commands most of your time. That’s why 14% of people plan to change jobs in the new year.

Often a better job will require you to relocate though. In that case, your first step should be finding a place you’ll love to live in addition to just working. Find areas that have a lot of jobs in your industry and where unemployment is low. Once you’ve narrowed it down, ensure you’ll take home enough money (like we talked about in the previous section) to support the lifestyle you want and save for the future.

Pick up a hobby

Those hobbies you’ve been keeping in the back of your mind but haven’t tried? Now is the best time to pursue them. And a whole new set of hobbies are available to you just depending on where you live. For example, cities that get a lot of snow and have mountains nearby will make you want to get on the skis or snowboard.

Similarly, live near an ocean and you can try surfing. Not fully convinced surfing is right for you? Well, just mentioning surfing in conversation has been shown to increase others’ interest in you (and this will help you make friends for your other resolution).

But ultimately, no matter what you want to do with your leisure time in the new year, there are a lot of possibilities available and many different cultures across the country that will help you dive in to your new hobby.

Get moving

As we enter the new year, we set goals to improve our lives. Moving to a new city is a wonderful way to spark improvement because the fresh start naturally motivates our brains. With such a great opportunity, make your next experience even better than the last and move to somewhere that resonates with your personality and drives your goals. When you love where you live, you’re empowered to do incredible things.
