Johnny Never Blinked
A Poem; Selection I, Of The Curation
Johnny was a young man
Brought up to always think –
From adversity and fear
Never, ever to blink
Because of courage
Honor and Duty
To look fear in the eye
To hold his head high
It’s a Man’s thing…
In one of our many wars
As many have done before
Where family, friends & fellows
Have fallen
For honor and duty,
For Freedom & Country
In the hell that is war
He never blinked,
It’s a Man’s thing…
In a city now free,
In one of the wars
The smell of freedom
Was in the air
On a nighttime patrol
His Humvee on the roll
By the side of the road
Lay a deadly IED
In an instance of time
Flames and terror
We're everywhere
And through it all
Johnny stood tall
It’s a Man’s thing
Johnny never blinked
In the harrowing moments –
At the time he had to think
While Heaven held its breath
He saved his wounded Comrades from flame
And certain death
His wish was not to die
He struggled to stay alive
But – on that day –
That glorious day –
Heaven called a hero home
Johnny Never Blinked –
It’s a Man’s thing
