With four years of full-stack development effort and endless rounds of code testing and auditing, MAP has successfully built the fully on-chain cross-chain infrastructure using the most secure light-client technology, and is further refined by applying zk-SNARK. MAP Protocol provides maximum security while ensuring seamless communication across different chains, and connects both EVM & non-EVM chains in the broad multi-chain ecosystem.

Overall, MAP Protocol consists of three dApp-oriented layers: the Protocol layer, the MAP Cross-chain Service (MCS) layer, and the Application layer.

Shouldering the responsibility of verifying cross-chain communication, the Protocol layer has three major components:

1. MAP Relay Chain/ Mainnet: Secured by 100+ staked validators, it is an EVM-compatible PoS chain adopting iBFT consensus. MAP has designed the EVM layer of the MAP Relay Chain innovatively by embedding the algorithms of each destination chain as pre-compiled contracts, so as to facilitate the light-client construction on both EVM and Non-EVM compatible chains and gas fee optimization. $MAP token is the chain’s native token.

2. Light-client network: Deployed on each chain, light clients self-govern following the corresponding blockchain’s consensus protocol once correctly initialized, ensuring verification finality as always.

3. Inter-chain maintainer program: Maintainers are responsible for updating the status of light-client.

The three core components in turn have their checks and balances to achieve the maximum security for all cross-chain communication on MAP Protocol.

A trustless and decentralized security mechanism to achieve the ultimate cross-chain interoperability

Since the attack on Ronin, Wormhole, Harmony, Nomad, and Celer, cross-chain security has emerged as one of the top concerns in Web3 and whether existing cross-chain bridges have a secure future now remains uncertain. MAP Protocol is here to change the playing field — provide the secure foundation for every cross-chain application.

In MAP Protocol, all cross-chain messages are backed up by cryptographic proof which asserts actions taken place on the source chain. Then, corresponding light-clients will verify the cryptographic proof to double-check the validity of the action. Next, when enabling bi-directional cross-chain communication, one light-client will be deployed on MAP Relay Chain for each connected blockchain, then another light-client living on the other end, thus forming an omnichain verification network. Moreover, all cross-chain security check-ups are done WITHOUT the involvement of third parties (no oracles, no super administrators).
