Life is full of small moments that we can be thankful for. Every day we have the opportunity to stop and view those moments as a million little miracles, or keep walking and pass them by. The pandemic has improved my vision for spotting small moments I am thankful for.

During the early months of the pandemic when we were all adjusting to wearing masks, members of our Community Living, Compliance, and Communications teams hosted an agency wide activity where team members and people we support sent videos demonstrating how to wear their masks and have fun while doing so. I will always remember my favorite submission where a team member in Connecticut was working with two gentlemen. From behind the camera, she asked one of the gentlemen who was properly wearing his mask to help his housemate put his on. And happily, the gentlemen got right to helping!

In that moment, the team member empowered a great service. She helped the gentleman feel valued by encouraging to help someone in need. In that small moment, the gentleman offered a skill that he possessed and supported his friend! That in itself gives us all reason to be thankful.

In life, we all have something to offer. We reach our full potential when what we offer is opportunity to be seen, to be valued, and to bring our giftedness to the task. As the pandemic winds down, let’s find opportunities for others to shine and to give and receive our thanks. Let’s expect these small and sometimes big moments of greatness.
