Bravery often comes in the simplest form, and we all have the opportunity to act on it. At KenCrest, it comes down to our ‘WHY.’ What matters most to each of us? What compels us to push past our fear? What is more important than the worry of failing, disappointment, or being hurt in some way? What is our deep purpose in life? While most of us will not take on big leadership roles, or be responsible for millions of lives; we will impact at least one life quite significantly: our own. Are we brave enough to be the hero?

In many instances heroes do not work alone; they have supporters and they benefit from the commitment of someone else- another hero -to help them put their power to work. Here is a story of those two kinds of heroes:

Since October 2020, Jimmy and Jenn have spent every Friday delivering food for Meals on Wheels in Chester County. Jenn spent months coordinating and overcoming many obstacles, including COVID-19 restrictions and safety protocols, to support Jimmy in getting out in the community to do what he loves. Jimmy and Jenn spend four hours every Friday delivering between 12–14 meals to seniors throughout the Chester County region. In addition to the myriad of responsibilities she completes daily, Jenn dedicates most of her Friday to support and empower Jimmy and his desire to help others.

Jimmy is not only brave; he is hard worker. He has a fear of falling due to his depth perception, and struggles walking on snow and ice. Despite his fears, along with the discomfort that sometimes comes with wearing a mask for four hours straight, and the snow this winter; Jimmy continued to make deliveries with Jenn. He persisted through some very challenging days, but never complained or stopped volunteering and delivering. Jimmy has memorized all the special diets of the customers. At the time when the fears of the virus were highest, Jimmy understood the significance of what he was doing to help people who really needed help get their meals on time. Full of pride, he loves to take a picture each week afterwards!

This week we celebrate Jenn for pushing past the fears of the pandemic to empower the gentleman she supports in the things he loves, and Jimmy for pushing past his fears related to his own stability to help others in need in his community. Thank you both for being amazing heroes in your own right!
