More and more, we are transitioning into a new phases with the coronavirus. The strict stay-at-home orders continue to loosen, and new sets of rules, suggestions, and guidance are being published every day. We’ve been able to go out more, but we’re still not really getting “in.” The virus is not gone. We have helped each other with social distancing and restricting our movement, but we still need greater understanding of immunity and a vaccine before can establish a truly free routine.

Every crisis and major change presents an opportunity to leave our former routines of life on the dance floor and take up a new one. What if we left our former routines and mindset altogether on the dance floor, and went to the balcony? If we looked down and saw things from a completely perspective, what might we imagine? And once we start to imagine new things, what could we create?

There is no doubt that we are in crisis in a multitude of ways, but what better time is there than now to rise above it, move from our location, and take another look? If we truly embrace the KenCrest mission and the full inclusion of all our participants, how would we assess what is happening on that dance floor? What makes us smile and what makes us wonder? What are we doing out of habit, and what do we and the people we support truly love and enjoy?

We will be asking everyone at KenCrest to go to the balcony and take a good look from a new perspective — especially now when we simply cannot thrive the way we previously did. Our history says we have experienced life-altering changes before, and great things have resulted from those shifts; we can do it again. Come join me with a new perspective. Things change when we come off the dance floor.
