There is no doubt Wordpress is one of the best content management systems out there. It is completely free and has a massive community behind it. This is why we always recommend Wordpress to Market Campus students looking to setup a blog to practice on.

It’s good practice for SEO to have your blog be “domain.com/blog” rather than “blog.domain.com”. So how do you setup a Wordpress blog? It’s very easy. The instructions below are assuming your Wordpress installation is already setup, this tutorial specifically shows how to create a /blog/ page that shows your latest blog posts. This means your home page does not show your latest posts, but is rather a custom page that you create.

1) Create a new page in the “Pages” section.

2) Name the page “Blog” and make sure the url of the page is “/blog”.

Nothing else needs to be done to this page. Once you have named it, go ahead and publish it.
3) Go to Settings >> Reading

Wordpress Blog Settings

In the “Front page displays” section of this page be sure to select the second option. For the “Front page” option pick whichever page you would like to be your home page (you may need to create one just like you did above for the blog). Then for the “Posts page” be sure to select the new “Blog” page you just created.

4) Test your URL
At this point your blog is all setup. Create some quick posts and then visit http://yourdomain.com/blog/ and you should see your latest posts.

So now the next time you wonder how to setup a Wordpress blog you’ll know exactly how to do it. Very easy!
