#MeetTheTeam Monday

--

Ela Obrębowska has almost 10 years of experience in VC with a proven track record in investor relations, marketing, and fund operations. Before she joined our team, she had worked at Experior VC and had been a Community Manager and Head of Events for the European Women in VC, an initiative that brings together over 500 senior female VC professionals from all over Europe and Israel.

Privately, she’s a mother of a beautiful baby girl and a crossfit enthusiast. What other sports does Ela enjoy doing in her free time? Let’s find out!

The most important piece of advice you’ve heard in your life is…

Don’t be afraid to be the dumbest person in the room. By surrounding yourself with people smarter than you, you absorb both knowledge and experience. That’s one of the things I value most when working in the VC industry. I’m constantly evolving.

Still evolving, but if you were to name one specific event that shaped you, what would it be?

In May 2013, my favorite ex-boss recommended me to a freshly opening fund in the rather unknown and mysterious-sounding (back then!) Venture Capital industry. I immediately caught the bug. I was learning together with the entire ecosystem and I do not plan to change the industry in the nearest future. Tom, my warmest regards to you 😊

So in the MOC team, what are you responsible for?

I’m responsible for communication, marketing, organization of community-related events as well as for all kinds of partnerships.

I also take care of the smooth functioning of the office and ensure that our investment team can fully focus on investments😉

That sounds like you may need a lot of superpowers in your daily work. What would you say is your main strength?

Running complex and comprehensive projects such as organizing events. I really enjoy putting the final touches to successive tasks, which, like building blocks, slowly build one into another and in the end they become a well-functioning machine. Positive feedback after the event is just the icing on the cake.

What’s then the latest lesson learned that you can share?

We work to live, not the other way around. Healthy work-life balance not only makes us better partners and parents but also helps us to be more dedicated and effective employees. Hard work — definitely YES, but also the right amount of relaxation and taking care of body and spirit are the golden mean to me.

Talking about taking care of body and spirit — what are your favorite physical activities?

Gym, crossfit, and running. Generally anything that allows me to get tired in a physical way, de-stress, and release endorphins.
