With sites like Shopify has made easier for people to set up their own online store, you might be planning to start your own ecommerce store. Right? After all, who doesn’t love to make money online, and setting up an online store can turn out to be a great way to get started. However, if you want to make money online, setting up an online store is not enough. You need to understand how to optimize your ecommerce store so that it starts appearing in the search engine result pages (SERP), which results in driving notable leads and finally converting those leads into customers. Always remember that driving prospects to your online store is not a cakewalk, especially if you have hundreds or thousands of category and subcategory pages of products.

Many online merchants have a belief that by simply listing their products on their online store, it will start appearing in SERPs, but the truth is that this never happens. Optimizing an online store to make it search engine friendly requires a good knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) and it is more complicated than optimizing a single page website or a website having a few pages. Today, in this post, I’m going to share some result driven ecommerce SEO tips that will boost your website traffic and double your sales.

#1 Manage ‘Out of Stock Pages’ Wisely

The very first thing that you need to do is manage the out of stock product pages of your ecommerce store. If there is any product which is not available in stock and you know that product will be back in stock soon, it is better to leave those product pages untouched instead of redirecting your visitors to any other product page or add another product on the same page as it might hamper the interest. The best thing that you can do is ask visitors to leave their phone number or email address for receiving a notification when the item is back in stock. In the below image you can see an example of “Notify Me When Item is Back in Stock” message which allows the visitors to enter their email so that they can get a notification on the arrival of the product.

#2 Don’t Forget to Write Unique Description for Every Single Product

Yes, UNIQUE description for every single product. Lack of description of a product or having a duplicate description of a product not only devalues your page but also prevents it from getting higher ranking in the search engine result page (SERP), which ultimately hampers the sale of a product. Thus, it becomes vital to add a unique product description on every product page of your online store. I understand that writing a unique description for every single product is a tedious task, but believe me, it’s worth giving a try. While writing a product description, you should always make sure it is engaging and SEO friendly.

Here is an example of a product along with the description:

#3 Optimize Your Product Pages

If you run an online business, you might be aware that images play a crucial role in the sale of any product. Thus, it becomes crucial to use high-quality images with different angles on your online store so that visitors can look at the product from different angles. While uploading high-quality product images on your online store, make sure the image is not heavy in size, otherwise, it will increase the load time of your page, which in turn decreases the possibility of ranking at the top in the search engine result page (SERP).

Another thing that you need to keep in mind is that with the right optimization of high quality product images on your ecommerce store, you can increase the chance of improving your website ranking, and for achieving this you need to add targeted keywords in the ‘ALT tag’ of your product image. Have a look on the below image to see how an optimized product page of an online store looks like:

#4 Include Customers Reviews and Ratings on Every Product Page

You will be surprised to know that more than 80% online users prefer to buy a product after checking out reviews and ratings of other customers. It simply means that if a product has more positive reviews and ratings, the better it has the possibility of getting a tremendous boost in your product sales. Thus, you should always include customers’ reviews and ratings on every product page and if any product page doesn’t have adequate customer reviews, you should try to increase the reviews and ratings by asking people to leave their valuable feedback, otherwise, you might miss a large percentage of sales of that product. Besides sales, product pages having positive reviews and ratings reach faster to the top in the search engine result page than the product page having fewer reviews and ratings.

#5 Optimize Product Pages of Your Online Store based on the Search Demand

To stay at the top in the search engine result page (SERP), you need to optimize the product pages of your online store according to the search demand because it will bring potential leads to your store. Here’s what you need to consider while writing headlines, title pages, and descriptions of any product.

Enlisted below are some useful tips for better optimization of the product pages:

· Use the brand name of the product in your H1 headings and title tags

· Use the model number of the product in your H1 headings and title tags

· Don’t do keyword stuffing on your product pages by using the keywords repeatedly

· Don’t forget to use alt tag information on your product images.

· Try to avoid using iframes for displaying the content on your product page

#6 Pay More Attention on Mobile Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Over the past few years, mobile search engine optimization (SEO) has grown tremendously due to the rising demand for smartphones and significant growth in the mobile internet. Researches have shown that these days people prefer to shop online through their smartphones rather than shopping from laptops or desktops because smartphones are handy to carry and users can shop at any time and at any place. This clearly indicates that if you have an online store, it must be mobile friendly so that people can easily shop online from their mobile without facing any sort of problem. To make your online store mobile friendly, you need to focus on mobile search engine optimization (SEO), which helps in driving people to your mobile store. Besides this, it is also important to consider that your online store works well on every mobile device be it a smartphone, tablet, or other mobile devices. An example of a fully optimized mobile online store is given below:

#7 Build Strong Internal Linking and Manage Architecture of Your Online Store

You might not know that internal link building is an important SEO parameter for website raking. However, if you want great results, you need to improve the architecture of your site as well. Internal linking is not always meant for search engine spiders but sometimes it is important from a user point of view. You can create a robust internal link architecture of your online store through smart planning, which includes:

· Use breadcrumbs on all the products, categories and subcategory pages of your online store. It is helpful not only from SEO point of view but also makes your site more intuitive. When you have breadcrumbs in your site, any user can easily move from page to another.

· Category level navigation: This helps users to get an idea what they will find inside the subcategory and product pages.

#8 Manage Your Product Variations Precisely

In an ecommerce store, you might have seen that some products are similar but they vary in colors and sizes. If you don’t manage those similar products, listing them will not only create duplicity but also results in penalization of your ecommerce site. Not just this, your products might also rank for the wrong keywords. For example, a blue shirt might rank for a black shirt and a black shirt might rank for a blue shirt.

If you put all the aforementioned ecommerce SEO tips in practice, you’ll indeed see a great improvement in search engine ranking, website traffic, potential leads, and sales of your online store. However, online store optimization is something that you need to do continuously to stay at the top in the search engine result page (SERP). You should always carry out your research work to find out the latest tips and tricks to drive traffic and sales to your ecommerce store.
