Whether this is your first time writing copy or you have been doing it for a long time, here are a few tips to make your message more effective:

Keep it simple:

  • As a professionally trained marketer I’ve seen colleagues of mine write copy that, in the best of terms, doesn’t really convey a clear message.

Never assume that your audience knows anything that you don’t explicitly explain to them.

Watch your grammar:

  • Believe it or not, when I was working with a marketing agency, sometimes they would deliver content to me with grammatical errors.

This just goes on to prove that even if you’re a professional, there’s always room for improvement. Not only will your message lose credibility, but you will lose credibility as well.

Probe into the customer’s mind:

  • You have seconds to catch your customer’s attention, especially in print. How do you get their interest when their attention span is short?

Answer their questions. Try to predict what their thoughts on the product or service you’re offering are and address them.

Pay attention to the customer:

  • Especially if you’re starting off with a new product and service, you’ll have to look to your customers to understand who they are.

One size doesn’t fit all, especially when it comes to marketing. More and more the customer is asking for an individualized approach, so try to deliver on the unique traits that your audience has.

There you have it! And remember that marketing is the art of delivering the right message to the right people at the right time, so leverage these tips and you’ll soon be underway in writing a memorable copy!
