When millennials watched September 26th’s debate, Donald Trump was wearing a flower crown and Hillary Clinton was a deer.

If you opened Snapchat during the debate, it probably looked something like this.

It seemed like everyone who had watched the debate, felt the need to let their Snapchat followers know about it.

It’s as if they were announcing to the world, “I was able to tolerate this nonsense.”

But this wasn’t your everyday millennial slacktivism. This was slacktivism with Snapchat Lenses.

For you non-millennials, simply put, Snapchat Lenses use augmented reality to change someone’s face. As you can imagine, Snapchat users took the debate as an opportunity to augment the faces of the presidential candidates. This behavior was amplified by tonight’s persistent split screen, which featured both candidates’ faces onscreen almost at all times, presenting the prime opportunity for ample face-swapping.

And while Snapchat was getting some good laughs out of the situation, Twitter pointed out the ~originality~ of the trend.

Twitter is always ripe with interesting discussions surrounding any given live event, and the debate was no different. It seems as though Twitter users did not think as highly about their Snapchat counterparts…

Others pointed out that our country may potentially be doomed, but at least we can all laugh about it on the internet… right?
