Why I’m OK With Giving Away All Of Our Secrets

You’ve probably noticed by now that we give away all of our secrets on Seeking Wisdom and at Drift — from the sales, marketing, and product playbooks we follow to the experiments we’re running and the books we’re reading.

And in a space that’s as competitive and paranoid as SaaS, people often ask why.

Well, here’s my answer:

Even if people know the secrets, less than 1% of people will actually do something with them.

Such a small percentage of people will actually take action on the advice we give, so I’m comfortable giving it away for free.

It’s easy to read a post or listen to a podcast on fitness and losing weight. And most of us know the secret to achieving six-pack abs. But that’s exactly where the hard part comes in: getting started and following through to see life-changing results.

Most people might start by cutting out pizza, eating better a few days a week, and mixing in some cardio and weights — and then repeat that week twice before giving up once the inspiration well runs dry.

And that’s the case here at Drift, too. We share the exact email copy we send and the books we read as a team — but most people will barely make it past the first paragraph.

That’s the topic on Seeking Wisdom this week, and we’re talking about:

  • Why we give all of our content away for free (0:49)
  • Eric Thomas and his relentless pursuit of finding a solution for his wife’s M.S. diagnosis (4:32)
  • Jeff Bezos, Amazon, and the 10 year overnight success story (6:48)
  • The two mega trends happening right now in marketing and business and why you should capitalize on them (9:40)

PS. Hope you can join us and 1,000 marketers in Boston for HYPERGROWTH on September 25. There’s a special promo code at the end of this podcast episode 🙏
