Welcome to my first in a series of weekly wrapups for startup and small business marketing.

This series aims to look at the latest news, technology and strategies from around the marketing stratosphere to help small business owners and startup founders make the most out of their marketing budgets.

We’ll be looking at all kinds of marketing aspects, from low-budget MarTech to new SEO updates to watch out for, from ways to streamline your PPC budgets to what’s new in traditional marketing.

Holding all the Spaces

Twitter is continuing to back spoken word social media through its Spaces feature. The social network now allows you to record social media on IOS and Android.

The feature will allow public playback on Twitter for 30 days. Hosts will be allowed to download their recordings for use elsewhere.

Spaces, and other audio-based social media profiles are excellent for small businesses where networking is a vital part of generating and nurturing leads, but they also serve as great ways to present webinars or podcast content in a new way.

Rumbles in the Rankings

SEOs are reporting the first Algorithm update of 2022, and it flew by with no official confirmation. A few SEO experts reported changes in traffic and rankings across multiple industries. While it is unclear what is causing these changes in rankings, it is useful to make a note incase your rankings are affected. And remember, when you’re using white hat SEO techniques, Google updates are less scary.

Who’s the Man?

75% of Men on Pinterest use the platform to plan their goals, a study finds. Pinterest For Business has been looking into how men use the female-dominant platform — and it comes with some very interesting results.

Men tended to use the platforms to help organise their life goals, such as healthier eating, seeing more movies or spending time with family. The study also found that men on the platform convert much faster than female users. So, if you have a service-based business or a goal-orientated blog, then allowing more time for Pinterest may be key to success in 2022.

Watch and Learn

All in it Together

Inclusive Marketing is a hot topic — and for good reason. Marketing has always been about making brands relatable, and if you can’t see yourself in a marketing campaign, then you can’t see yourself in the product or service.
