Getting to Inbox Zero

If you’re like me, you get a lot of emails every day (between subscriptions, newsletters, and cold emails). If you’re also like me, you probably are drowning in the flood of emails to the point where it feels like you get too many. Unsubscribing from some emails is OK, but there are quite a few newsletters I get daily or weekly that I really care about.

If you’re like me, then you probably want to finally see Inbox Zero (where there are no messages in the inbox). Many people suggest filing them away in subfolders, and that’s OK (there’s even automation to help with that), but most email I get I don’t even need to read more than once, so you can decide to just archive an email after you read it.

To help you get started and have a shortcut to Inbox Zero, try this:

  1. Select all your emails in the inbox.
  2. Click the “Select All” that appears.
  3. Press the Archive button.
  4. Press “OK” when asked to confirm a bulk action (be sure you really want to archive all your emails in your inbox).

It’s a quick shortcut to Inbox Zero, but it only lasts a little bit. Then, instead of checking every minute, check your email several times a day. If you want to access your archived emails, you can search for them by subject line, sender, or by content to be able to access them again. You’ll feel a lot lighter when you don’t see a large number of unread emails, but make sure you’re not archiving important emails (you can unselect emails).
