If you are running a business, how much do you spend on your marketing budget over the year?

The traditional marketing that people used to do was very different. It included only billboards, bus benches, flyers, yellow pages, and all that kind of stuff. Companies would take out these big quarter page or full-page ads that would cost them thousands of dollars. They saw that as cost savings.

When online marketing became a big thing, many people thought that it’s just about building a website. They kind of ended it right there and they only updated their website like once every three years or so, and you can tell. In fact, a lot of people are using their website as a mere representation of what their business looks like.

If people are a potential client for you or even a potential employee, they’re evaluating what you look like online. So you should be keeping that fresh and current, updated at least less than a year ago. You should be refreshing your website on a regular basis.

On that note, your online marketing budget is more than just your website. That’s you pushing out content to establish yourself as an authority in the different social channels. We’re talking about LinkedIn, Facebook, Google, YouTube and all of the different social channels that you decide are important for where your clients may exist and hang out. You want to be making sure that you are pushing out regular content there.

Your online marketing budget needs to be something that you contribute to on a monthly basis. It doesn’t need to be expensive, but it’s something that always needs to be there, so that you’re dripping out this regular content on a regular basis, in order to get in front of more eyeballs and to direct people.

After all, all businesses are ultimately trying to create brand awareness. We’re trying to extend our reach so that all these people could come back into our website.

Do you want more leads on your corporate website? Do you want better search rankings for your content on the Internet? Do you want your users or viewers to fill out that contact form? Or is there some product or service that you want them to buy or register to straight away on your website?

Well, if you want to increase your brand awareness and sales online, the first thing you need to do is increase the traffic flowing into your site.
