Digital marketing is the most cost-efficient way to do marketing campaigns nowadays. With minimum cost, marketers can reach the most people. However, due to the fact that it is relatively new, business owners who are not born in this generation might not know the importance of digital marketing campaigns and how to do it. Some of them, unfortunately, have paid a large amount to a marketing agency and not participated in any process of the campaign at all. Here, I want to give 5 things business owners need to know when they do their digital marketing campaign.

  1. Direct Your Own Campaign

When creating a digital campaign, the owner must be at the forefront of the campaign. Of course, you, as the owner, don’t certainly know how to do the whole campaign and it’s fine to hand it over to professionals to work on it. This doesn’t mean that you can be totally away from it. Digital marketing campaigns are like any traditional marketing campaign. You must be part of it, know all of it, and maintain control over it. You are the one who has the most knowledge and insights about the business and this campaign.

2. Create Your Own Website (or a webpage about it)

One mistake I’ve often seen is that companies that are having a campaign don’t post anything about it on their website. It can easily confuse customers since they are not certain if the information about the campaign is solid or not. People may see the ads or something about the campaign on social media but, because there are scams and frauds everywhere, people are looking for authentic proof.

3. Use Top Digital Marketing Channels

There are 3 top categories of digital marketing channels out there: social media marketing, search engine optimization, and pay-per-click. I am not going to get down to each detail and explain each point and compare and contrast each of them. You need to briefly know that social media channel is the cheapest and easiest way to reach a massive amount of people; SEO provides visibility when people are doing researches; PPC is an easier and more effective tool to use. You cannot use all the digital marketing channels; it would be costly and not all of them are effective based on your campaign.

4. Understand Different Digital Marketing Metrics

Each channel has its own way of measurement. Knowing the metrics of each digital marketing channels can help you understand what is working and what is not. It will aid you to easier analyze the data you acquire from the campaign and utilize those for future purposes.

5. Monitor the Success of Your Campaign

Business owners need to know if the campaign overall is a success of not, based on the goals/objectives you set in the beginning. With the metrics you use and the results you acquired, they should tell you, for example, how much sales increases. Not every campaign is about increasing revenue, however, revenue, sales, and market share are indeed easy to use for measurements. In some cases, awareness might be the purpose of the campaign. Then, you can measure the success by the total impressions viewed, the amount of traffic increased online, or the amount of the total engagement increased. You might have CMO or professionals to work on this, but it is important for you, as an owner, to understand what each number means and how it is doing compared to previous campaigns or similar cases.

Happy Thanksgiving Week!
