1. Huge Potential Market in Mobile Marketing

I usually spend over 8 hours per day on my mobile devices. I am not surprised that mobile marketing is thriving, with 2.7 billion smartphone users checking their devices 50 times on average per day. Most people on average spend 4.5 hours a day on their smartphones, which is expecting to generate $189 billion in-app revenue by 2020. On Google Play Store, there are 2.8 million apps available for users to download. Marketers are competing with each other intensely in mobile marketing.

2. How Do Beacons Work?

In order to stand out from millions of apps, beacons are invented to send notifications to help marketers better understand nearby customers’ demands, needs, and preferences. Marketers can use the information from beacons to deliver the most effective and relevant service and campaign to the right customers. This innovative targeting approach will benefit both marketers and customers by saving their time and money. It is also helpful for marketers to promote customer retention and encourage engagement in many situations.

3. How Does Mobile Marketing Engage with Audience?

Imagine yourself shopping in crowds on Black Friday. You really want to try a pair of pants on, but you cannot find your size. It would be so great if one staff could notice that by beacons and bring you the right size. Now, no worries about getting staff to help you. Instead, they will come to you proactively with the solution to your problem. Also, when you are discovering foods in a new restaurant, and you have no clues about what to order. A waiter can have a look at your favorite dishes in the past via beacons and recommend something you would like. Beacons really can also be helpful when marketers want to launch new products, send promotions and promote loyalty programs.

4. Challenges New Mobile Trends May Face

As discussed above, there are currently millions of apps available for users to download and navigate. One of the biggest challenges of mobile marketing now is how to get users to first know about your app and willing to download it. Another big challenge is how to sustain user retention and engagement. Many apps might surprise users only once. Constantly updating mobile marketing strategies, app designs and mobile technologies is the key to user retention as all the mobile users are only looking for new things.

5. Potential Threats to Worry About

For a mobile marketer, beacons and other new mobile technologies are great approaches that can be very helpful in telling everything of target customers. However, customers might feel that there is no privacy in the market place anymore. Marketers may exploit customers’ information only for their own benefits. Another concern is that beacons currently can be hacked easily since they are based on Bluetooth. It may require marketers to hire additional tech team to secure the whole system.
