How much we know about Booking.com?

Booking.com published the popular destinations for the tourist over the summer.

Booking.com was founded in 1997. In 2002, Expedia (My company) was not tempted enough to purchase it -for their bad luck-. Yet in 2005, the company was acquired by The Priceline Group for USD 133 million. Booking has then become one of largest e-commerce platforms in the world with a market cap of over USD 64 billion, covering over 1 million hotels worldwide.

Booking.com has contracts with the hotels that it lists and will take a commission on each booking through its site between 10%-30%. The commission depends on the size of the hotel and how well it wants to rank on the Bookings.com pages.

Booking.com landing Page Perception

Old version vs. latest desktop version of Booking.com

Information Architecture (IA) is the way of arranging content in your app or website. The reason why your users are confused or overwhelmed (most of the time) is not because of the visual design but the disorganized Information.

Compare to the previous version, the company has been improving much better than before. If we take a look at the old version, the website was too wordy which made people didn’t want t read, or boring because the website lacked of focus and all over the place. User left Booking.com websites with a negative impression because it presented too much information at the same time and created an unnecessary feeling of urgency to book.

If, we take a look at the website nowadays the page has been more clean and precise. It only shows what needs to be show on the top. Even though if we scroll down we still can find its problem which too much information. However, at least they have separate the search engine and the “extra” information.

BUT EVERY PROBLEMS HAS IT SOLUTION! I found the problem as a great opportunity to test new ideas and improve the user experience by simplifying the UI later on.

Old version vs. latest mobile version of Booking.com

For the old version, mobile version looks less cluttered and less busy. It leads quickly to the part most people want to use the most is right there! But in the latest version, desktop and mobile version looks 99% similar. Once again, it’s very direct and precise for the users. And because many countries around the world are still facing the Covid-19 situation, so the site keeps putting the guidance about the Covid-19 for the users.

Yet, now we will compare the two mobile versions. In the latest version, the site includes various options (Hotels— Flights — Combo Hotel & Flight — etc.) for the users which the old version did not have or maybe at that time the company did not generate these options yet.

In conclusion

The site is useful, it serves its purpose which is committed to offering an informative, user-friendly website with the best rates guaranteed. With the goal is to provide business and leisure travelers worldwide with a pleasant, efficient and cost-effective way to book hotel accommodations.

For my personal experience, I am having a pleasure using it in Vietnam or in other countries. The design is much more better but still isn’t very innovative yet. Nevertheless, the plus site about the website which keep me using it is the customer service of the website. The Customer Service is extremely easy to use and helpful, what I have to do is to log in and choose the options to have a live chat with the agent or to have a call with them, yet, I do not need to any information about my booking because I can select in the website which booking(s) that I want them to help me with. Therefore, I think this website is a good company with a great website to do everything related to travelling and I am 100% recommend this website to others.
