ALL EYES ON ME-htab !

Kindness is a Superpower ! I urge you to use that superpower should you decide to read further as this is my first attempt at writing a blog. I extend my warm welcome and I am very humbled that you have decided to embark on this blog-venture with me.

Monaco, August 2019

My name is Mehtab Virk and I was born in Chandigarh, India. Chandigarh is known as “City Beautiful” and was designed by Swiss-French modernist architect, Le Corbusier. My father serves in the Indian Armed Forces, as a result I have lived in military cantonments all over India and interacted with people from diverse backgrounds. In 2013, after finishing my Bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Delhi, I moved to Canada. The Great White North was my home for five years and this is where I met my husband, gained marketing knowledge and experience, and toned my biceps after regularly shoveling three feet of snow. In January 2020, I moved to the Upper East Side neighborhood in New York, NY. As I began my Msc. Integrated Marketing degree at NYU, we all were shaken by the COVID-19 pandemic. This pandemic has changed the course of lives and temporarily altered the path we had set for ourselves. It has forced us to reevaluate our plans in a new environment.

The pandemic has put a halt on our gatherings and festivities. Before that I used to actively indulge in social interactions with peers and seniors. In 2018, I decided to get certified as a Citizen Historian with The 1947 Partition Archive. The 1947 partition of the Indian subcontinent created one of the largest refugee crises of the 20th century. Therefore, as a citizen historian, I interview and collect stories of partition witnesses and help keep their legacy alive. This collection of stories of the South Asian diaspora is available here. Additionally, I am fond of playing basketball and cooking. Maybe one day I can share the recipe of my Seekh Kebab Biryani, which has added several inches to my husband’s waistline.

My interest in Marketing piqued due to its deep connection to human interaction and behaviors. It is the core department which helps build brand recognition and facilitates deep rooted relationships of a company within the society. In 2020, companies that have tailored their business objectives to be consumer and experience centric will set themselves apart. This blog will be about the different shades and nuances of marketing that we are seeing around us. Having worked in a green technology start up as well as a financial services company, I bring some prior knowledge of marketing in the North American market. I look forward to go on this journey with you where we educate and transform ourselves into victorious marketers, who have a high emotional intelligence and keen sensibility towards our ever changing surroundings.
