Newsjacking is a very sensitive marketing method. If you use it well, you will receive infinite love from consumers, but if you use this method wrongly, consumers will leave you.

Just this week, faced with the resignation of a large number of officials and the loss of credibility of the government, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his resignation. The news has stirred the world. While the world was watching this event closely, Burger King used it to market itself.

Advertising Van

Hours after Boris Johnson announced his resignation, Burger King’s advertising van drove up to 10 Downing Street, which is known to be where the Prime Minister lives and works. The design on the van looks like a 10, representing 10 Downing Street. The number 1 is composed of TURNS OUT THERE IS SUCH A THING AS TOO MANY “WHOPPERS”. And whoppers is the name of Burger King’s most famous burger, which also means lie. And the shape of the number 0 is the same as the gate of 10 Downing Street. In this way, Burger King mocks the outgoing Prime Minister and uses it to criticize the government. A day later, Burger King UK’s official Twitter account also posted this image.

I think it’s a very interesting newsjacking event, and it’s also a useful way to get the word out. I say this because Britain is not getting better under Boris Johnson, and many British people think Johnson is a dishonest politician, which has led to a loss of credibility for the British government, which is very bad for a country. So Burger King’s use of this political event for newsjacking was very much approved by the British. Although the use of politics for marketing is very sensitive and can have serious consequences if a slight mistake is made.
