Diamonds: The Storyteller of Women.

And the BFF, too.

Like most women of Indian decent, my mom has her own collection of gold jewelry. It consists of pieces once worn by her great-grandmother, pieces given to her on her wedding day, even pieces I’ve bought for her when I got my first job (my dad only got a nice shirt, but he was still happy). Gold jewelry, whether it’s real or just fashion jewelry, is seen in Indian culture to symbolize many things, including wealth and having spiritual meanings. But for jewelry to tell someone’s story, that’s something different.

Tanishq is a jewelry store chain based in India. I came across their Instagram when my best friend sent me something from their page and I began to browse and click around (who doesn’t like to just click around on random posts?!).

At first, they looked like any other jewelry page that was advertising the gold pieces they carried, but there was more.

Tanishq’s Instagram feed.

For the last few weeks the company has been posting their pieces alongside pictures of women with inspirational stories. This campaign, which they have named #EveryWomanADiamond, is to represent that similar to a diamond, every woman is rare and extraordinary. Their latest diamond collection honors the journey of all women and inspires them to take pride in who they have become over time.

Seeing this campaign made me think of every piece I own. Jewelry isn’t just something materialistic for us and each piece has it’s own story. Whether it was given on a special occasion, passed down from generation to generation, or just bought for a granddaughter by her grandmother, it’s not just a necklace or a ring or bracelet.

Even though Tanishq is a jewelry company whose main consumer are those who are wealthy or looking to buy gold jewelry, they still found a way to relate to anyone viewing their page. Tanishq representing different women in different stages in their lives shows even though we are all on our own path to becoming the person we are meant to be, sometimes along the way we need to reward how far we’ve come and see the diamond within.

So, although a diamond may be a girl’s best friend, we are our own diamond.

Love&Light Always — Pari
