This might be the question that a lot of people had thought about especially in recent years. Due to tons of different apps on our mobile phones, and different so-called algorithms, it feels like privacy is far away from us.

Websites and phone apps can easily track your searches, and provide to you almost everywhere. Some apps even through our microphone listen to what we are interested in recently and then show us the product we are talking about when we turn on our phone again. This is scary, and finally brought up the problem Do we really have privacy?

What To Do?

As ordinary people, we can not do anything to protect ourselves from those apps, and websites, but luckily government has recognized the seriousness of the privacy problem, so since 2023, there are more and more companies have to deal with privacy problems more carefully, and at the same time there are more and more regulations came out to protect citizens from those companies.

Is This Good?

From the user’s perspective, I will say that it is a great thing. Because no one wants phone apps can track almost all pieces of information from their phones. It is more secure for a user to keep their privacy. But it might have some issues either, for example, it might not be as convenient as before, and online shopping might not have special recommendations for users, but it is all acceptable compared to the privacy issue.

As a marketer, I might not like the more and more restricted regulations about user privacy, because it is making our promotion harder and harder to reach the target customers of our own company, we can not take the information from customers as easily as before, so it is becoming harder and harder to find out our target customers, and at the same time, it blocked the direct post for potential customers which finally would affect marketers a lot.

Even though from the marketer’s perspective it brought a lot of negative impacts, overall, it is a good thing to have more and more privacy regulations, because those regulations can protect regular users, and make them feel respected.

It is important to have users and people to support a company, but a company must learn how to respect its users before selling products to them!
