Does the launch of Meta Quest 3 mean the further development of the Metaverse?

The Meta Quest 3 has officially launched and went up for pre-order on Sep.28. The headset is planned to ship on October 10. It starts at $499 for the 128GB storage model, which is $100 more than the Quest 2’s $299 price tag. If you want to buy the 512 GB model with a larger storage capacity, it will cost $649. Since I own Meta’s previous popular generation product — Quest 2 and play it frequently, I am quite interested in the release of the new model.

Feature Updates

Quest 2 was first released in 2020, performance updates are one of the reasons why I’m interested after 3 years of Metaverse development. The optimization of the graphics enhancement function allows Quest 3 to have excellent lighting and higher resolution, and the problem of blurry characters in the previous generation has been effectively solved. Smaller and clearer lens groups, comfortable wearing, and sensors that automatically monitor the surrounding environment are all its progress.

Interactive Reality

Compared with its predecessor, Quest 3 is equipped with six upgraded external cameras that can display real-world environments in full color and have more precise technology to track hand movements. Although the speed of typing is relatively slow compared to typing keys in reality, I think this technology will continue to mature in the future.

As a topic that I have paid attention to before, I have hoped that virtual office can become a reality. People can carry out mixed reality remote working, with a virtual office environment and real colleagues in the metaverse. It means I can work right away with headset instead of worrying about commuting.

Market Direction

Braindance in Cyberpunk 2077 is an example of how people envision the future of VR. And people’s expectations for the future are exactly their value to marketers- promoting dreams. Since marketing is turning to digital, the shift from real digital to virtual digital will be a topic that people will be interested in the next step. The improvement of Quest 3 is the right choice and right belief.

Overall, the launch of Meta Quest 3 I believe is a milestone for the further development of Metaverse. Apple Vision Pro, which will be launched next year, will be its main competitor. This kind of competitive pressure makes me look forward to the emergence of Quest 4!
