What is Doritos “Triangle Tracker”?

Doritos invited consumers to find triangles nationwide through its new TRIANGLE TRACKER program. A nationwide hunt where any triangle can unlock exclusive experiences and rewards, including $250,000 grand prize. Customers can participate from August 24, 2022 up to September 25, 2022, once per day.

A code to win a reward will be produced when real-world triangles are transformed into Doritos using Snapchat’s unique lens. Additionally, users can participate in weekly challenges that Doritos posts on TikTok, where users are tasked with finding and photographing iconic triangle spots spread throughout the country. The weekly TikTok challenges have $15,000 bounties and are released every Wednesday through mid-September.

To make the task even simpler to complete, Doritos has also taken over well-known locations in New York, Atlanta, Memphis, and Tennessee.

How was the Triangle Tracker campaign?

The specific outcomes of this program are not posted online. But according to TikTok, 42.7 million people have viewed #doritostriangletracker, and many of them are actively posting their real-life videos with triangles on TikTok. And it’s also creating a buzz on Twitter. Search #Doritostriangletracker on Twitter, and you will see people posting what they saw as a triangle.

Why did Doritos do that?

“Doritos has always been known for its iconic, bold flavors, but this year we’re leaning into another part of Doritos: its iconic triangular shape,” said Stacy Taffet, senior vice president of marketing at Frito-Lay North America.

Doritos launched a Triangular tracker campaign to leverage the tortilla chips’ triangle design and transform them into a scavenger hunt. Due to the Covid-19, customers are yearning for an emotional and engaging gaming experience. This campaign enabled consumers to attempt to recreate the amusement they enjoyed before the outbreak. Doritos is strengthening the game component in their marketing! Along with StreamElements, Doritos developed a first-of-its-kind AI bot that allows streamers swap the triangles in all of their favorite games with Doritos chips. Additionally, Doritos worked with rapper Offset of the Migos to highlight the triangle around the MTV Video Music Awards, which aired in August. How amazing that a snack business paired with gameplay and music!

Doritos has created an innovative way to interact with its customers, which is a great way to market Doritos and generate awareness and deepen the impression of Doritos so that every time you see a triangle, you will immediately think of Doritos.

“Triangles are everywhere”

“Doritos equals triangle” is precisely the impression and feeling that Doritos wants its customers to have. Although I didn’t participate in this program, knowing about it may have made me realize that whenever I see a triangle in real life, I can’t help but think of Doritos.

Interestingly, I believe Doritos also encourages people to have more joy in life. Not only triangles but also hearts, squares, polygons, etc., could be present in our real world. All shapes have a meaning in life if you are good at discovering them — in real life, it is possible to meet all the things that are more than you can imagine.
