YSL beauty x Lil Nas X

When we think about beauty makeup, the first thing that comes to mind is that makeup is for females. However, no one had defined that males can not have to make up on. In 2022, YSL beauty launched a campaign that collaborated with Lil Nas X, an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He shoots pictures and videos with YSL beauty‘s products on, stands in front of the public, and wants to break down stereotypes and preconceptions.

“Lil Nas X embodies YSL Beauté’s vision for the future of the beauty industry: boundary-breaking, unique, unapologetic, bold,” Laetitia Raoust, YSL Beauty U.S. General Manager, said in the press release. “The synergies between the brand and Lil Nas X’s unwavering passion for individuality are the inspiration behind this partnership with the hope it empowers the next generation of beauty.”

This is not just a campaign that calls people to purchase their product, but also trying to let people break down the stereotypes, no gender beauty. No matter who you are, you can all wear the makeup you want. By using Lil Nas X as the new ambassador, he is a celebrity and belongs to the LGBTQ+ community. It’s not the first time YSL beauty partnered with LGBTQ+, and they want to unite all the people and accept and respect each other.

The campaign was posted on TikTok, the official site, and Instagram. Yves Saint Laurent Beauty posted videos of LNX wearing makeup on dancing and some pictures of how gorgeous the makeup on his face was. The background music for this campaign was an unreleased song from LNX from that time. I think the campaign was quite successful because the total views of the videos from YSL Beauty Tik Tok official accounts are 89.9k views, already higher than most of the content from its accounts.

LNX is a genZ rapper, and most of his fans are genZ based, by posting on TikTok and Insta, the two biggest social media platforms which genZ uses, can attract their eyes. Not only post commercial videos and photos, but the contents are meant to inspire them to break down the boundaries, it’s a new era.

As a worldwide brand, their campaign is not only a call to action commercial, every decision they make and launched can make this world be a better world.
