According to the Hype Machine, the technology can be used for both bad or good purpose. However, it depends on us that how technology can have an impact on us.

Social Media Age

According to him, self-feeding is where the preferences, interests, desires, and geolocated activities are traced. Based on the data available, persuasiveness and analysis are improved. One of the most interesting aspects is that the more the hype machine gets precise, the more persuasive and precise it becomes. As social media is growing fast, the reach and revenue generated from it are increasing as well.

There exist social streams of news, tweets, posts, pokes, referrals, notification, advertisement, ratings, check-ins, news media, and crowds. These social signals together form a human social network, and through this network, information flows. This social network unleashes the reality of how it has influenced the audience. In the coming years, social media’s influence will increase, and this influence will be used to steer the conversation of the world towards their end. Individuals and business try to mould the opinion of the people and somehow change it completely to get their opinion in their favor.

During COVID-19

The urgency of the message has increased after the outbreak of COVID-19. The situation after covid has led to an increase in the use of the internet and social media. People at homes have nothing much to do, and they use social media to get news and entertainment purposes. The pandemic has pushed people to use social media more and keep in touch.

False News

According to the author, fake news spread faster as the audience is bigger, and the news is shared within the networks that increases the spread rate. It spreads farther, deeper, and comparatively broader than the actual truth. However, the truth is reached to only 1000 people or above. The false news is spread rapidly as influential people are fooled into sharing such content or false news. The news is retweeted several times, and the bots and huge response and engaging activity by the users create a cascade of fake news that is triggered by bots but spread by humans through their network of Hype Machine.
