Developing digital marketing strategies is a highly challenging task. Despite various opportunities and resources available for marketing practitioners today such as smartphone applications, software, and social media, the market is highly competitive and we are essentially competing for the audience’s attention.

Moreover, the success of digital strategies is also partly dependent on the brand itself. For this reason, there are some things that clients should know to inform and guide digital strategies:

  1. Identify existing resources and capabilities. Digital marketing necessitates financial and non-financial resources. Brands should have adequate resources and capabilities to support all digital marketing efforts.
  2. Clearly identify your target audience. Brands must be clear about their target audience or market. They should also know their target audiences and tell the latter’s stories. This proves that they have a definite grasp and understanding of their market, which will guide digital marketing.
  3. For social media marketing, less is more. Brands need to choose only two to three social media platforms. While social media marketing is highly effective, it is difficult to streamline content if a brand manages 10 or 20 social media pages. It is more important to choose a few ones that will get the job done.
  4. Be open to new ideas. In digital marketing, or marketing in general, creativity and innovation are essential to success. This involves being open to new ideas. Brands should be open to exploring various ways to deliver content and implement strategies. Who knows? New ideas may just deliver the target engagement the clients want for their brands.
  5. Get with the times. We are living in a different world now — then and now marked by this pandemic. We cannot keep doing what we have been in the past decade. Today, it is highly important to approach marketing with humanity and sensitivity to people’s experiences and struggles. Brands should be aware of this and practice social responsibility even in marketing.
