Due to the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19, customer buying behaviors have shifted from shopping at retail stores to online. A lot of businesses starts to focus on customers’ digital shopping experience instead of in-store. And here are the five most important things you should know before creating a digital marketing strategy for your clients:

1.The importance of content marketing/storytelling nowadays

If you are still trying to advertise the competitive advantages or the attribute of your product, I am telling you that you are on the wrong path. Social media’s uprising completely changed customer path nowadays and the path keeps evolving. Social commerce is on the rise. In 2022, US social commerce sales are expected to reach $45.74 billion, with more than half of the country’s adults purchasing on social media. Companies are trying to create storylines about their product instead of telling customers how their products can solve their problems. To be honest, all the products can definitely solve problems for customers from different perspectives, but how do we allow our customers to realize and memorize that is the key to success. A good story can change brain chemistry. Effective stories make us feel emotions. Emotions improve our ability to remember experiences, thereby helping to improve information processing. Stories make it easier for our brains to store data for later retrieval. Therefore, good content marketing is the key to making impression on our customers in this fast-paced society.

2. The benefits of AI marketing

Marketers’ use of AI soared between 2018 and 2020, jumping from 29% in 2018 to 84% in 2020, according to Salesforce Research’s most recent State of Marketing Study. Companies are trying to predict what customers want before they know they want it by using AI algorism generated from the big data. Timing is curial for marketers nowadays because customers’ attention span is getting shorter and shorter every day with the massive use of social media, and AI marketing saved a lot of time for marketers. It also helped marketers to tailor their strategy more accurately around their target audience. If your business is not using AI algorism to help you market, you are missing out!

3. Increasing D2C channels

The uprising of direct-to-customer channels appears with the help of the pandemic. Instead of going to the retail store to buy products, customers can order products directly from the business’s website. Direct-to-consumer e-commerce (D2C) sales in the U.S. alone are projected to reach $151.2 billion in 2022, a 16.9% increase from 2021, with a similar trend across Europe. The pandemic has also shown the B2B world how embracing D2C can be a profitable model, with many manufacturers seeing it as a way to future-proof their B2B businesses. D2C has many benefits, including brand differentiation and control over pricing, the ability to deliver a better customer experience and personalization, innovation based on real-time customer insights and feedback, and the potential to increase lifetime value and profitability. It also involves gaining and staying in close contact with customers by directly accessing their data and focusing on the customer experience. Staying in direct contact with our customers is important, and D2C can help you do that!

4. UX, Web design, and SEO

Now let’s talk about how to better improve our customer’s online shopping experience. A user-friendly website for customers can help generate more profit for the business, and the business must have a good web design for their website.
-48% of users believe website design is the #1 factor when judging a business’s credibility.
-38% of visitors will stop browsing a website if the layout is unattractive.
-94% of users create their first impression of a website based on web design alone.

After your website is built which is cater to your customers, you also want your customer to be able to find it or the product on your website. Online competition is fierce, and only the strongest can survive. This is why you want your website to appear in search results with the highest possible ranking so customers can find your business easily.

5. Mobile Advertising is the Primary Mode of Digital Advertising

Mobile is more than a platform these days, it can also be a primary search tool, methods of payment, geotargeting and more.
-57% of consumers wouldn’t recommend a business without a mobile-friendly website.
-68% of companies with a mobile-first website increased their sales.

Before going to bed, I personally would not turn on my laptop but instead would scroll on my phone. Compared to the big screen, our connection to the mobile device is more personalized and stable. From my personal experience, I make more purchases on my phone than on my laptop. With the uprising of social media like Instagram and TikTok, I can simply click on the link of the product and purchase my phone. Therefore, companies need to build a mobile-friendly website that caters to customers’ purchasing behaviors. Mobile ads also deliver relevant messages in real-time. Accurate online store visits allow you to build more customized audiences, ensuring you can reach shoppers when they are active and engaged. The more accurate your location data, the better your ability to offer offers and deals to customers when it matters most.

Therefore, before you create a digital strategy for your client, these are the things you should keep in mind!
