How it works

Guinness Perfect Pint Challenge is a smartphone app that is based on a small smartphone game. In this game, users need to challenge themselves to pour a glass of Guinness beer with perfect foamy head virtually under the guidance. It will score users’ performance according to three different aspects which are accuracy, perfection, and time control. After this, users could choose whether to provide their personal information for the opportunity of winning the prize or not and then, their scores will be put on the ranking list to compete with other users.

This app also contains other functions that provide users with benefits. Users can check the latest news of Guinness and find out the nearest location to grab a glass of Guinness beer. If users are interested in the stories behind the brand, there is a brief introduction to the history of Guinness. Last but not the least, this app provides contact information if users want to communicate with Guinness.

This app does not require complicated registering process, users could use it directly after confirming the legal age of drinking.

How it looks

With the Gold Harp logo of Guinness, this app utilizes the black theme to keep consistent with the brand image of Guinness which is a famous dark beer brand. The User Interface is simple and concise since there are not many functions. Options on the main interface are well organized with a reasonable order. Therefore, users can easily navigate what they want in the first look. What surprised me is that this app is bilingual in both Mandarin and English (the reason may be that it is mainly used in the HK area). In short, this app does not have an amazing aesthetic design style but it reminds you of its connection with the brand immediately when you open it.

How it feels

Teaching users how to pour a perfect pint of beer with an interesting smartphone game is a very innovative method instead of just giving a paragraph of guidance. The virtual experience will help users to understand each step and enhance the memory in their minds. On the other side, users can have some fun while learning this technique. Also, users have a chance to win the prize by participating in the score competition (I also believe this is a smart method to collect customer information). These provide a strong reason for users to download this app. Additional functions like Guinness Navigation and Latest News may not attract those users who only want to know the technique or play the little game, but these functions are very useful and attractive for Guinness beer fans. In this case, this app should have more gaming programs to convert normal users to customers.

I am a Guinness beer fan and I decided to keep this app on my smartphone. However, I can only experience limited functions if I am not in the HK area. What a pity!

Come on! @Guinness, please give us an international version of this wonderful app!
