As mentioned in the infographic, customer data provides marketers with helpful information to understand their target audience, including their personal data, purchase history, and even why they bought your product. With these resources, marketers can get the segmentation and adjust their marketing strategy to better market to the right target audience.

However, due to some data breaches recently, customers are aware of the issue and become sensitive when their data are collected. As a consumer, you need to pay attention to the long terms and conditions pages to see how they will use your data while clicking “I agree.”

Moreover, for companies, one of the best ways to prevent data breaches is to train your employees well since about 88% of breaches are attributable to human error, and also, you need to limit the access of personal information to employees. Next, of course, is to improve the general security. By using techniques like better architecture, firewalls, VPNs, traffic monitoring, and restriction, companies need to ensure third parties’ safety.

To sum up, thanks for the big data that brings digital marketing a whole new world and the power of analytics. Since the data breach issues are regarded as an important topic, I believe the rise of awareness of marketers and customers can make this kind of drama happen less.
