The contribution of educators is priceless. They have helped countless young people, not only knowledge, but also their spiritual mentors. Their work is long-term, patient and fulfilling. Therefore, McDonald’s decided to launch a free meal for educators, this event will last for a week. The purpose is to thank those educators who are diligent and shining.

Six days ago, I noticed a post on Instagram, which came to McDonald’s. “Mark an educator you know”, they attached a photo of an outdoor billboard with the words “Free breakfast, #THANKYOUMEAL FOR EDUCATOR”. After that, I visited the official website of McDonald’s and learned about their intentions. There is no doubt that this is a brand marketing campaign.

This digital marketing campaign caught my attention. Because I started to wonder why McDonald’s did this? Why is it an educator and not another profession?

“Recognition and Appreciation”

The president of McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger said at this event: All McDonald’s employees and operators hope to create better services for the community, and we also want to thank the heroes in daily life. They are often unknown, but they often appear in many important occasions, such as emergency personnel, medical staff and educators. We hope to thank them for their contributions through this event. Last year, McDonald’s presented more than 12 million thank you meals to medical staff. This year they hope to express their gratitude to educators.

Educators can show their credentials to employees in physical stores and get a package. McDonald’s stated that this event is for all educators to get recognition and appreciation from McDonald’s. They ask consumers to invite educators they know to receive this package, encourage them to use social platforms to post tweets and put the hashtag #thankyoumeal. They hope that everyone will express gratitude and respect to the educators.

I feel touched because…

As a marketer, I very much agree with the brand’s word-of-mouth marketing and reputation management. I also appreciate that companies care about the community and other similar stakeholders. Usually these activities are non-profit and charitable. Consumers can feel the corporate culture through these activities. So I think McDonald’s contribution to the community is not only to provide delicious meals, they really care about the lives of consumers and the future development of the community.

Secondly, educators are indeed very hardworking. Their working hours may much higher than the legal working hours. And how do I understand these? Because my mother is an educator, I know the hard work of educators very well. She is a middle school teacher. She often needs to use the time after work to review students’ work, and she often revises her courseware in her free time. She is very patient with students. In my eyes, working mothers are always attractive.

My mother is a teacher :)

Patience, gentle speech and guiding students’ thinking are her daily activities. Of course, it is inevitable to wake up very early. She often can’t eat breakfast on time, so her stomach has some opinions. For her age, this is not a good thing. So, when I saw this free breakfast, I was very moved and I wanted to invite my mother to collect it immediately. I want to tell her that your students, your daughter and McDonald’s are very grateful for your contribution.

Heartfelt thanks

You are welcome to also care about this event, and invite educators you know to participate in it. As McDonald’s explains, “From spotlighting the most heartfelt thank-you on our social channels, to local owner/operators surprising teachers with a breakfast delivery to their school, we’ll celebrate select educators across the country in big and small ways.” If Do you want to know more about this event, welcome to send information to McDonald's or his Instagram and click on the link of the official website.
