The continuous innovation of the Internet and technology has brought many impacts to the traditional legal system. The issue of online privacy has aroused the attention of many people after the 2018 Facebook scandal. So far, many states have enacted new laws related to Internet privacy. However, it is worth noting that privacy issues are only a small part of network problems. Internet fraud, Net neutrality, misinformation, and disinformation on the network are all hidden dangers in the virtual world. As the number of people exposed to the Internet continues to refresh, is it a good time to regulate network security?

Status and analysis

Now, you can hear words like “big data” from anywhere at any time. Yes, we are now in an era of talking about data. Because the data cannot lie, it can help us analyze the current situation, judge the behavior of others, and predict the market trend. It is an excellent assistant for our marketers. But where did these data come from? Many times, when you register for a new online shopping website, your information has been spread all over the world. No one will carefully read the tens of pages of Terms of Service, and you agree to share your data with the operator ’s terms hidden in it. And if you do n’t agree to those terms, you can only shop in the Target downstairs. Now, most of what we say about online privacy refers to no one can see your private information except the operator and you. But the point is that no one can predict that the operator will transform your data into another type of information to buy for others or affect your life.

Pros

Those who think that the network environment should be open believe that it is because of the particularity of the network that we have such a comfortable life now. We should keep the web in a state of natural development, and improve our quality of life to a higher level. In this environment, technology companies are easy to develop, rather than being constrained by government regulations; this will hurt the development of science and technology and economic development.

Cons

Those who oppose it are more afraid that the leaked information will cause problems for their safety. Often, celebrities are harassed by fanatics because of leaked home addresses, let alone ordinary people. Besides, all kinds of false information on the Internet will also lead people to the real world. Now even very young children spend a lot of time on online media. This information can easily mislead them. Yet, internet scams use this open platform, and a lot of money is lost every year.

Personal opinion

It is never too late to do anything. But how to do it is a question worth thinking about. Not only to protect the interests of Internet companies but also to protect the personal safety of users. This problem is not just caused by the Internet itself. Take misinformation as an example. People in the United States advocate freedom of speech. Does speaking on the Internet count as free speech? Then restricting such statements is likely to conflict with the Constitution. So standardizing the network also requires careful discussion of the direction of the problem from all angles. But I still hope to see that network behavior can be standardized as soon as possible so that users have a pleasant environment for use.
