Are you a fan of ‘Rick and Morty’? If you are, I am sure you were impressed by the recent cooperation of Rick and Morty with Pringles. Pringles released its Super Bowl commercial this year featured in Rick and Morty and will offer the ‘Pickle Rick’ flavor for a limited time only. In this blog, we are going to look at the website design and UX of Pringles, and hopefully discover more surprises from it.

On desktop

PRACTICABILITY: Is it easy to use?

The whole website mainly gives introduction to Pringles’ different products and ways to buy them. The title of homepage shows clear and succinct roadmap. The website is employing a responsive design which allows the page to adapt automatically to the size and orientation of different platforms and enables optimal display on desktops, tablets or mobiles. For example, on desktop monitors three categories of products are displayed at once, while on mobiles the page shows only one at a time due to size difference. The website also has a sticky navigation, which keeps high-level navigation links at the top consistently visible as a user scrolls and provides superb convenience.

The website is also easy to convert. Once users open the website, a small pop-up window would show up reminding people to join Kellogg’s Family Rewards system. Also, on the bottom of every page of the website there is a link to let people sign up for the reward system, which to some extent helps conversion.

Frequent call to action

AESTHETICS: Is it pleasurable to read?

The brand color of Pringles as well as the main tone of the website is red, which reminds people of passion and joy. The top and bottom of all pages have red as background color, which forms a unified style. Moreover, the participation of Rick and Morty theme adds a shining point to Pringles’ original entertaining style. The big Pringles-controlled Morty robot on the homepage could attract people’s attention immediately. Pringles has also combined the elements of universe from Rick and Morty and their potato chips products by creating a small interactive game. The Stack Pringles activity could not only provide users with some fun and a little surprise, but also help conversion by giving the link to buy on Amazon during the game.

CONTENT: What is the message?

Through the Stack Pringles game, the playful design and Pringles’ partnership with the famous comedy cartoon Rick and Morty, you may be able to detect its brand message that Pringles wants customers to play with their food and make a creation with its chips. The message conveyed through the website is consistent with its past campaign the Pringles Ringle challenge, which encourages customers to create a ring by stacking the potato chips in a specific fashion and share it on social media. Another thing Pringles impresses me is that its page ‘countries/regions’ provides the links to different versions of websites in about 70 places all over the world. I appreciate its efforts in respecting and adjusting for different languages and cultures.

Overall, the Pringles website is useful, playful and entertaining, especially for fans of Rick and Morty. If you want to discover your own dimension of flavor with Pringles, go try the game!
