Brands such as Tommy Hilfiger and Dolce & Gabbana were among those to test the virtual waters of the Meta Verse Fashion Week, hosted by Decentraland from Mar. 23 to 27.

KEY INSIGHTS

  • Brands were able to show case their creativity using 3D visual spaces, interactive and engaging experiences
  • Technical limitations presented obstacles as brands tried translating sophisticated brand images and real-world fashion into the virtual realm of the Meta Verse
  • There is an audience spent on digital wearables for their avatars, as they have been on Decentraland

Does the Meta Verse Fashion Week qualifies as a success?

That depends on varies measures like —
Will it yield a surge in sales of the physical products that brands still make their money from? Maybe not.
Was it a good opportunity for press and marketing? Maybe yes, but it depends on the audience the brand was trying to connect with.

In my opinion

Many brands participated in Meta Verse Fashion Week just to test and learn as virtual spaces, digital assets and NFTs as they continue to attract interest and money. But brands will have to find ways to do that while preserving their carefully crafted images since this may not have been an ideal showcase for an industry that sells images.
