This serves as enough reason for companies to start thinking of a way to plan and be more strategic with digital marketing.

The information above states the importance of digital marketing in today’s world. So what does this mean to a potential client? What are the important things/Knowledge base a client should know before creating a digital Strategy for them.

What is digital Strategy? Johanne Tombrakos — defined digital strategy as strategic use of digital technologies and the power of the Internet to connect with a customer or potential customer with the intention that connection will ultimately drive revenue.

Digital Marketing begins and ends with strategy: The digital strategy framework begins with defining the goal/problem both macro and micro, setting KPI’s and planning. It is important that planning be done with business goal in mind and also done in tandem with traditional marketing. The digital marketing can not stand alone from the traditional marketing because you want you brand to pass the same message across to your audience. Disparity in message can completely tarnish your brand.

Never underestimate to power of social media: Social media is one of the most powerful platforms when it comes to digital marketing. It boasts of the most user engagement on the internet, from platforms like Youtube, Instagram, facebook, snapchat, linkedin, weChat and TikTok among others there is an average of 1 billion engagement on social media per minute.

To fully harness the power of social media for marketing effectiveness clients more know which social media platform is better suited to their brand and which garners the attention of their target market. Being up to date on trends that can help direct content creation which users will engage with and also tapping into real time marketing to be able to NewsJack and respond to customers query. Social media no doubt has become a platform for customer relationship and customers like it.

Think about your users when designing: Steve Jobs said, “Design is not how it looks or how it feels. Design is how it works. What is the essence of digital marketing if you can not retain customers? This is where human centered designs come into play. “Design thinking is a human centered centered approach to innovation that draws from the designers toolkit to integrate the needs of the people, the Possibilities of technology & the requirements for business success”_ Tim Brown. Creating a great user experience is one of the most important things when developing a website or an App. Doing all the extra work and effort into a successful digital marketing campaign will yield no ROI if the customers get to your site or app and can not achieve what they intended to.

Respect and Cherish Customer Data, With all scandals and news about misuse of customer data which began with the careless handling of Facebook user data with Cambridge-Analytica. The governing bodies around the world have put up strict regulation about data privacy and right of users and tech companies. There has even been talks about an internet bills of right which aims to give the customer the upper hand against businesses. Essentially to give them full control of their data. Companies are supposedly to inform customer every single time when and what they want to use their data for and customers have the right to request all the data companies have on them. marketers all know how important data is, it is what supports the creativity, it back marketing campaigns with proof. It takes the guess or gut work out of decision making that is how important Data and Analytics are. This takes me back to my last point

Strategy again? Yes. Starting a digital strategy session with a goal in mind is always the way to go remembering that a plan can always change because of the volatility of the digital landscape. It is always advisable to revisit strategy intermittently. The whole whole idea is to be be able Define the Goal strategize and plan, Implement and Execute, optimize & Iterate and back to Define.

As Ted Rubin rightly said. “When people ask me what’s the ROI of Social, I ask them… what’s the ROI of Trust, and what’s the ROI of Loyalty. The answer, when used to build relationships the results will be… longer lifetime value of a customer, larger average order value, and increased frequency of purchase. All measurable and all lead to increased sales and profits.”

Thank You!

See You Next week.
