“It’s the Super Bowl season. Wanna popcorn and chill?”

“Popcorn? Too much calories! I’m on diet!”

“Try Skinny Pop!”

“Ummm, let me think about it…”

Skinny Pop is under the big Hershey brand as a healthier snack alternative as it uses simple ingredients. According to the Skinny Pop website, it was created to provide people with a snack that “tastes delicious and is good for them”. Their motto is “snacking without compromise” and they claim to use no artificial flavors or ingredients. The products are whole grain, kosher, non-GMO and always gluten free.

But is Skinny Pop really a healthy alternative?

The main ingredient sunflower oil is mainly comprised of an inflammatory fatty acid called omega-6s while having 0 healthy fatty acids called omega-3.

And they are not “as low in calories” as marketed.

And they tasted “blah”. No flavors.

And just like any other snacking brands, their purpose is to have people addicted to their products and keep eating it. So how could it be healthy?

And their social media page is lagging a lot, barely posted anything!

Meanwhile, they developed the image of “Skinny Pop Girl”, which is very stereotypical and against the mainstream “embracing your body type” message. “ADULT SIZE COSTUME”….

The pairing with wine (in the picture is Rosé) is also weird. This is an effort clearing catering to young white girls which is a small geographic. If they are really consistent with their target customer base, they should invent more time and money on social media. However, the last time they posted on Instagram was 46 weeks ago.

If I were to choose, I will skip Skinny Pop and just enjoy a bowl of regular popcorn for game nights. I mean, not be hooked by “healthy alternative” and eat a huge bag of Skinny Pop!

What’s your Super Bowl snack?
