Due to Covid-19, many industries have been hit, especially the tourism industry. At the beginning of last year, everyone began to isolate themselves at home, and for personal safety, everyone reduced their travel plans. In this context, many travel-related companies are facing huge challenges.

In April 2020, Viator, a company under Tripadvisor, launched #RoamFromHome. This is an application of virtual reality to support small businesses and help travelers. It includes more than one hundred virtual experiences including free activities, paid activities, and commission-free activities. The initial experience of all activities is convenient for travelers to experience through the official Viator website.

During the pandemic, virtual reality is a good choice for travelers. Virtual reality can help travelers see the world when so many people in the world and many of us are still locked down. #RoamFromHome specifically uses virtual reality technology to cooperate with tour guides, attractions and destinations around the world to make travel virtual.

I think #RoamFromHome can improve the user experience, and at the same time promote the relationship between operators, experience providers and travel industry companies. Viator allows travelers to expand their horizons through a new virtual experience. Users can learn to make crafts, experience beautiful scenery, hang out in Hawaii, or participate in electronic music festivals…Of course, everything is done safely on the sofa.

Through #RoamFromHome, Viator also provides other ways to help operators and travel industry organizations. Including Tripadvisor Charity Foundation pledged to invest 1 million US dollars to support service organizations, initiate faster payments to help operators increase cash flow, free optimization meetings to help operators update lists, and integrate dedicated content and resources to help operators tide over the crisis .

After a period of promotion #RoamFromHome has received some good reviews. Six days after the start of the event, the Harry Potter Tour, a featured item of the event, had more than 30 reviews, with a score of 4.5. More than 10,000 users posted their virtual experiences and reviews on various social platforms. In addition, after the epidemic eased, the number of Viator users has greatly increased compared with the same period in 2019.
