Should be breaking up the dominance of players like Facebook?
With the advent of the Internet era, all kinds of social software is emerging, can be roughly divided into text and video two categories. However, people’s views on social software vary depending on their values.Today, let’s discuss the benefits and negative effects that social software brings to us.
From the article “When it Comes to Facebook, the Need for Action Has Been Obvious for a Long Time” by Kara Switcher’s, she point out that government should take back power from big tech. The New York attorney general, Letitia James said “Facebook has used its dominance and monopoly power to crush smaller rivals and snuff out competition.”
In my own view, I think the government shouldn’t break up the dominance of players like Facebook. Although, those big — tech software companies bring some negative effects to our lives but they still have some positive things. I believe every issue have two sides. Facebook enables previously ignored viewpoints to be heard. For example, France’s Yellow Vests have changed French President Macron’s tax policy and rank-and-file teachers in West Virginia won pay raises after organizing a strike in defiance of their union’s order to go back to work.
Firstly, it strengthens the connection between people. In some ways, social software makes it more convenient for people to contact each other. Before the widespread popularity of social software, people could only contact each other through phone calls, letters and other ways. The emergence of social software has made it more convenient for people to contact each other more frequently.
Secondly, in a larger communication platform, broaden their social circle. In addition to making it easier for social software to connect with our friends and family, it also allows us to meet more like-minded people. Also, it enriched people’s entertainment. In fact, social software itself is a form of entertainment, people can browse social software to watch the latest news.
Last but not least, it increase people’s income. Many people now use social software to generate income. For example, selling product through the software platform or publish video online for KOL to promote their channels.
To be honest, the software itself has no right or wrong, its essence is a tool, mainly in how we use, when appropriate, will be a regulator of life, if over-reliance, indulge in it, it is the corrosive agent of life, therefore, I hope that we can make reasonable use of social software, its benefits to the maximum.
