There is only 3 months left in 2019, and there are new trends of social media that we should be paying attention on. I read a article published by By Oliver Yonchev in Oct. 16, 2019 (https://www.prdaily.com/7-social-media-trends-to-watch-out-for-before-2020-hits/) This is a great article that it concludes with “Social media is seeing fast-paced shifts and updates throughout key platforms.”

There are seven trends:

  1. More ad money will be spent on TikTok.
  2. Facebook will continue investing in long-form news shows.
  3. We will see more ads within Instagram Stories.
  4. Instagram will continue its inevitable decline of organic reach.
  5. Facebook Groups will provide a big opportunity for brands.
  6. Twitter will continue to offer brands the most cost-effective opportunity to reach many people.
  7. Half of all brands will launch or plan to launch their own podcast.

In my point of view I agree with these trend that the author mentioned.

For TikTok: I have seen people changing from saying tiktok is not fashion but kind of old school, but then gradually shift to use it longer and longer no matter on creating there own videos or watching recommended videos. With the high level development of internet and cellphone, it’s a time not only sharing pictures but also videos. Tiktok is so successful since it includes all kinds of video from different topic and areas: such as professional education, cooking, fun, new tech, public topic, fashion, news, pretty girls, handsome mans… As mentioned in the article: “The average user now spends around 45 minutes per day on TikTok, according to Fast Company, which is more time than users spend on Facebook.” I believe that one day tiktok will be more successful than facebook or instagram.

For instagram, I do found out that I have seen more ads during stories than other forms like collection, canvas, video, vertical video. I think the instagram stories ads followed a good trend since sometime i do not have time to see posts, and i prefer to see stories one by one since it won’t take more than one minite. But i the same time I also doubt that even ads have good reach, is it efficient enough? Since during many times i just swept the ads in one second and may not even get the name of the brand.

For facebook, with a European focus, they will head to a more mid-roll programmatic advertising opportunities for ads. What’s more due to the huge challenges from other new media platform and the loss of youth user, they start to shift to focus on Groups and community.
