Are companies like FB and Google tech companies or media companies and why?

In the case of Facebook, whether we define it as a technology or media company, at least its boss, Mark Zuckerberg, pretended that his company, Facebook, was a technology company when he appeared before the US House of Representatives on April 11, 2018.

Of course, I also think it is a company that combines technology and media. What is irrelevant to the media in the current Internet age? What kind of media is not related to technology? Especially with more and more new technologies, new media, and the birth of new companies, I think at least software or companies like Facebook, Google, and TikTok need to be considered dialectically.

When we consider network security and the Internet Bill of Rights, I seem to understand more why Mark Zuckerberg has to solemnly declare that he is a technology company. Because it is said that if Facebook is defined as a media company, it will face quite strict advertising supervision. Especially in today’s TV and media departments are very strict on privacy control, the American people also pay great attention to personal privacy and security issues, plus Facebook has been criticized for unauthorized use of Internet information, then if he does not If the company is defined as a technology company, Facebook will also be in an unstable position.

Then, there is Google and a series of other technology or media companies that we are somewhat indistinguishable from. According to the division of GICS, companies like Google, Facebook, and Tencent have been included in the group of media companies, more precisely Communication Service. Moreover, the division of technology companies is too unspecific. There are many industries that include technology content, but in more detail, Facebook is for communication, and Google is a platform transformed from technology to communication and search.

The CEO of the world’s second-largest advertising group said of companies such as Google, “They own the media, but they all pretend to be technology companies. Google sells Google, Facebook sells Facebook, and Twitter sells Twitter.” New The possibility arises. In fact, they are more like technology companies under the name of the media, but in the end, they are selling their own “Google” or “Facebook” advertising companies, although this is a joke of Martin Sorrell.
