According to the Hubspot website, In 2019, a bike company called Peloton released a commercial starting with a husband giving his wife a Pleonton as a Christmas gift.In the video, the wife makes videos every time she works out with the bike and then shares the videos with her husband.

Feedback of the Commercial

The commercial was heavily criticized and mocked throughout social media because it enforced dated gender norms and goes against body positivity because many people believe that a husband buying a wife a workout device insinuates that she’s out of shape.

Newsjacking

After the high volume of playing ads, actor and Aviation American Gin owner Ryan Reynolds immediately cast Monica Ruiz, a.k.a. “Peloton Wife,” in a commercial which is like an extension of the Peloton ad released in 2019. In the commercial, titled as”The Gift That Doesn’t Give Back,” Ruiz sits at a bar, staring blankly into the camera. She sips Aviation Gin as her supportive friends offer her more gin and make comments to her and say “You look great, by the way.”

Personal Comments

I think it is effective for the Peloton and the Aviation American Gin at the same time. After people watch both ads, they might want to buy Peloton bikes and the Gin. This will draw people’s attention and make them want to buy products.
