Companies, digital media, or advertisements — whatever you want to call them — are part of the framework of her business worldwide. Now, the advertising rules are different depending on where you are in the world. Thus, you, the (target audience) member, will see ads made by someone with your area’s perspective that may or may not persuade you to make a purchase. I usually hate advertisements because they’re either cumbersome or just unrelatable. Occasionally, amidst the doom scrolling, you run into a video that makes you pause because it is the opposite of the dramatic media you have been watching for hours. It offers a much-needed mental shift. Then, you realize what you want: to be more active, spend more time with your family, or take a much-needed vacation. Sounds familiar???? For me with school, work, and a personal life…. time seems to escape. So, consuming media is an easy way to pass the time between tasks until you remember what you are missing.

I really love nature and traveling but there isn’t a lot of that living in New York City. Sure, there are green spaces that are carved out between the Midtown buildings. It is not enough to restore my personal perferred levels of physical wellness. Fun fact: the more trees you’re around, the cleaner the air is because trees and certain plants filter the CO2 levels in the air. Trees also create oxygen for us to breathe. Moving through nature promotes mental wellness and strengthens breathing. I learned that in a youtube video from an theater class. Youtube likes to remind me that I no longer live on campus with a forest in my backyard. “Nature’s healing powers can be — just a few moments of green can perk up a tired brain.”(APA 2020) Walking around campus in my free time helped me reduce my screen time. I was able to focus on the present and living fully.

Living fully encompasses several things: being physically fit, or staying in relatively good shape, being a part of a community, and having some form of connection to the Earth (divinity). Which brings us to the video that interrupted my doom scroll on a random thursday.

ASICS!!!!????!! I know right!

The commercial feels calm and well-rounded. It has everything you would think a healthy life has. There’s a trio running together throughout several areas and they are having a blast. You can see the joy on their faces. For some people, engaging in physical activity can feel like a burden if you’re doing it alone. So, having company while you are being active makes it a little easier. The advertisement makes the process of being in a community engaging in fitness and nature seem like fun and accessible. Fitness= Endorphins(happy chemicals). They are running through grass and concrete roads outside (Nature). You see greenery and the wind in their hair. ASICS offers a sneaker that can do it with stability all jog in nature or in a city Like NYC. At its most minimal level, you see them free and uninhibited by any alcohol or unhealthy habits. That is something that most people on some level want to have: a healthy habit or two. Come on, who wouldn’t benefit from that? I sure would.
