This is Where Personality Tests Intersect

At the crossroads of passion, I found sides of myself that I reflect on

Like many people in their 20s, I’ve struggled with understanding my purpose and sought it in many places — meditation, self-help books, astrology, and personality tests. Having studied psychology in my undergraduate years, my first exposure was to the Myer-Briggs Type Indicator. I was skeptical about the fact that only a number of questions can determine who you are — that just sounds like pseudoscience to me. But with the desire for a better sense of identity, I went through it anyway and found out that I am an Advocate (INFJ) — one who is defined by passion, creativity, and insight but on the flipside is someone who may be reluctant to open up. There are many instances where I found those aspects to be true and oddly enough, I felt secure at being labeled by a test.

Years later, The Fascination Advantage pops into my radar and claims the other way around — it would measure how the world views me. It says I’m The Catalyst, driven by passion and innovation. The fiery orange that painted that archetype daunted me as, for the longest time, I’ve grown comfortable fitting into the introverted character of my MBTI. Although I pushed myself to be more introspective and open to these results, then I’ve come to realize that I can come up with an anthem, elaborated in parts, on who I am:

A Light That Never Goes Out

Passion was my comfort word amongst others in the report, something that also speaks to what I was born with as a fire sign. The primary descriptors ticked all my boxes, but being an “open book” took me a step back. I enjoy freedom of expression and active listening, but mostly when it comes to others — I’m more of a listener than a sharer. This point of contradiction does not disregard passion as a whole though. I think the passion personality doesn’t always have to be loudest in the room, it can be a steady burn that keeps itself afire through various circumstances.

The Golden Girl

There are just some celebrities that don’t stop being delightful at any age and that is Betty White. Being one of the figures for innovation, I see why that is — a sense of relentless creativity and quick wit is what I love in people and in myself. I appreciate practicing those parts of me because there’s no one, linear way towards your goals. I find that if I exercise my mind to think creatively and curatively, the results usually come rushing like a golden stream of opportunities you can further explore.

Steadfast Passion Wins

That’s my anthem. In a conversation the other day, someone mentioned that careers are a marathon, and I know that applies to our lives as well. I want to embody as much passion and innovation in my life as I can, but in a sustainable manner — one that still gives space for learning curves and mistakes that make me a better version of myself to family, friends, and the workspace.
