Hi guys, How are you this week. This is really a busy week for me. I have two finals and two presentations. One of the projects is about researching Nike’s competitive strategy. When I was looking up Nike’s information, I found some interesting things to share with you. Nike uses AR to help customers find suitable sneakers.

What is AR

Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real world are enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes across multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory and olfactory.

How Nike uses AR

The AR experience itself is fairly simple: You open up the Nike app, go to a product page, and, next to where there’s usually a menu that lets you pick the size of your shoes, you’ll see a new option to measure your feet. From there, the camera will pop up and you’ll be asked to stand next to a wall and point your smartphone at your feet, which will prompt a view that uses two AR circles to level your phone. Once the feature recognizes your feet and your physical environment, it starts scanning your feet and then tells you your ideal shoe size for Nike footwear. The entire process takes less than a minute.

How AR helped Nike

When the customer uses this function, the customer’s foot information will be saved in the system. Nike can recommend suitable shoes to customers more accurately. And, this makes it easier for customers to shop online. And it allows customers to buy easily without going to the store to try on shoes. This is of great help to the company during the pandemic. This can allow the company to overcome difficulties during the pandemic.

This will become a big trend

I think AR trying on shoes will become a big trend, which will not only be limited to measuring the right size but not only in footwear. Due to the impact of the pandemic, online sales will become more and more developed. How to make customers have a three-dimensional experience in a two-dimensional world is very important. I think the use of ar can solve this point very well. I believe there will be AR trying on clothes or AR trying on cosmetics in the near future.

If you have any different ideas, welcome to discuss them with me. See you next week! Stay safe.
